DPP: Year 6

with 2 comments

This will be my 6th year (20112010200920082007) participating in the December Photo Project sponsored by the Tredways.

Looking back through all the beautiful pictures that I worked for of the things I love makes me smile.  I remember how hard I worked for some of those shots and how fulfilling it was to see them pay off.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again:  I really love the way the DPP has made me look for beauty in everyday life.  It makes me try to be artistic, to notice the beautiful things around me every day, to capture them in a pleasing way.

This is a particularly good challenge to me this year.  I am living in a new city that I can be pretty down on.  I think it will be good for me to be challenged to look for the beautiful here.

Thanks RT for creating culture of beauty and noticing.

A friend of ours let us know that her Grandmother died last week.  Her obituary was in the NYTimes.

What a staggering life.  Truly amazing.

Cape Cod National Seashore

Last Sunday Charity had  a work conference out on Cape Cod.  I played chauffeur and walked on the beach (see slide show above) while she smoozed.

It was my first time on the seashore since 1993 when my dad and I drove to Maine and back on vacation.

It was beautiful: clear, cold, and nearly deserted.  Since I had five layers on, I was warm enough to stay out for two hours taking photos and praying.  Twas a lovely way to spend an afternoon.

The only passenger on the train this morning.

Can’t decide if it is creepy or awesome.

First New England Snow

It isn’t sticking at all but it’s fun to watch it come down.  Just finished putting the last of the weather stripping around the windows.  Last night was the first time we’ve had to turn the heat on.  Keep hoping we’ll have a warm winter thanks to the girls downstairs.  Have to say it’s pretty nice to have a heated floor even if I can also hear their vacuuming down stairs.

Benefit of Apartment Living

leave a comment »

As I walked around Providence last week with my shoes rustling through the leaves I came to a happy realization:  I haven’t had to mow grass in 5 months.  I haven’t even had to think about it, feel guilty about it or dread it for that long.  For this year at least that bane is gone and that made me smile.  No leaves to rake either.  Definite benefits of apartment living.
