A Man and His Dog

Had a lovely visit with my grandfather and other assorted family in Atlanta this weekend.  He’s 93 and still doing 10 minutes on the treadmill every morning after he works on the NYTimes crossword puzzle.

There were three small dogs that ran around the house as a pack.  I have to say that McDuff is my genuinely my favorite, pictured here with Dad.

Mount Auburn Cemetery

with 3 comments

IMG_8933My sister is in town this weekend visiting and we made the trip to Cambridge today to poke around and check out Mount Auburn Cemetery, which is as beautiful as advertised.

The forsythia, daffodils, cherries, azaleas, and rosebuds all blazed with color.  Who would have thought that such an oasis exists so close to downtown Boston?

We spent two hours in the cemetery.  Starting with Dorothea Dix‘s grave and then winding our way up to a towering view of downtown Boston.

Perhaps our biggest surprise was finding a grave with my sister’s name on it.  Let’s hope she lives the same 90+ years that woman did.

Lovely, peaceful, beautiful and stirring.  Definitely worth a visit, especially in the spring.

Blowing in the Wind

A couple of weekends ago Charity and I made a trip to the beaches of South County for the first time.  It was cold and beautiful with the bright sun and the chilly wind.  The sand was brilliant and worth seeing.

Cape Cod National Seashore

with 4 comments

Last Sunday Charity had  a work conference out on Cape Cod.  I played chauffeur and walked on the beach (see slide show above) while she smoozed.

It was my first time on the seashore since 1993 when my dad and I drove to Maine and back on vacation.

It was beautiful: clear, cold, and nearly deserted.  Since I had five layers on, I was warm enough to stay out for two hours taking photos and praying.  Twas a lovely way to spend an afternoon.

Visiting Newport

with 2 comments

My parents are in town for the week and we took Tuesday to head down to visit the Newport Mansions.  Needless to say they were pretty fancy.  Actually walking around the houses of the gilded age amazed me at the social lives that they lived.  $7,000,000 entertaining budgets for a 10 week summer?  Ballrooms that are bigger than the house I grew up in?  Wow.

Also had a yummy lunch at a local chowder house.  It’s nice to have some pictures of us together.  Thanks Pops!
